Got a hold of a copy of the Duma advertisement in last night's paper, and it's not what you were led to believe...

Amazingly, it simply comprises a copy of last week's article in which Duma says, "The Minister for Petroleum & Energy, Hon. William Duma has expressed surprise at recent media reports that the Government has approved..."

    So...

    1) Someone or some entity (i.e. a short hedge fund, Shell, etc...) simply copied last week's benign article onto a paid advertisement with a prominent caption that reads "MINISTER FOR PETROLEUM AND ENERGY MEDIA RELEASE" to make it seem new and ominous!

    2) An anonymous author then wrote an article in PNG Industry News last night that states, "Duma was concerned with a comment made by InterOil chief executive officer Phil Mulacek in the company’s 2012 financial and operating results." Note that this was simply the anonymous author's intentional misinterpretation of last night's "media release" advertisement that simply copied last week's article in which Duma expressed concern about "recent media reports" rather than Phil's comments. A quick reread of last night's article will elucidate the author's sly means of deceiving readers into thinking the advertisement contained new information that targeted InterOil and Phil Mulacek (inluding an old picture being posted of O'Neill and Duma in Shell's office at the Petromin Haus).

    3) Now we know why all that volume traded at yesterday's close... this is borderline fraudulent, and Benzinga's false headline about PNG denying approval today was the icing on the cake. Someone should go to jail for this.

    4) The great news is that with this brilliant, fraudulent, well orchestrated short attack on the Wednesday of options expiration, the stock was only down 2%. This was a desperate tactic by the shorts (or Shell?).

    5) Feel free to distribute this post so that investors learn the truth and don't get deceived into missing what I expect will be a 50 - 150% move higher in the coming weeks.

    • Wow!! Great work. This smells of desperation heading into a deal announcement and options expiration. After three straight days of declines, expect a big rebound in the share price today. Pick, looks like you foiled the shorts sneaky plan and uncovered the fraud. There will be some major short covering today.

      Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • For someone to do something like this is just a plain give away. They have low IQ and apparently think other people really are that stupid too. I have always wonder how the shorts plan on covering since there isn't nearly enough call options bought to hedge. Now it becomes clear. Some people are just not very smart. They do not have the IQ to know they need to cover their shorts.

      • It's not a matter of stupidity, it's greed and deceit. The short case is done. The gas is there and it's more than adequate, the interest is there and it's more than adequate, the money is there and it's more than adequate, the favorable government is more than adequate, etc... Now it's just a matter of days before the key to unlocking all of the unascribed value for all of these things comes to fruition. The shorts have been obstinate, and their acts are becoming more futile - but they refuse to let go, and some realize that they will soon be forced to cover in order to remain solvent so they're resorting to fraud. It all makes me more bullish than ever.

    • The easiest way to dispel this nonsense is open the envelops and pick a winner!

    • It was a pretty pathetic attempt to shake the tree a little and force the weaker hands out. Someone (I think Bonkthegrups) posted how the stock will get clobbered when everyone who bought in February looking for a quick double would puke it. Well, it happened and we closed down only 2% and still straddling 75, despite all the doom and gloom, and Calvin College, and PNG is the most dangerous place in the world talk(besides everywhere else Exxon has operations of course!).
I hope the weak hands sold, and the shorts pressed it.

      Sentiment: Buy

    • Great find Pick. I didn't believe that the sitting Minister of Energy in PNG would actually take out an advertisement. Why would he? he could just call up a reporter. This is ridiculous that people bought that this was an ad placed by Mr. Duma. Had he done that, it would be grounds for termination. He has been no friend to IOC, but I don;t think he is stupid enough to pull a stunt like that. Amazingly, I don;t know anyone who posted that this might be a plant. It clearly appears that way.

      GHood work Pick.

      Good luck Longs

    • It is unbelievable that the shorts (or Shell?) may have resorted to paying for articles in the local papers to create fear, but it is very doubtful that Duma would have paid for a release from March 7 to have been copied onto an advertisement almost a week later. Irrespective of who paid for the advertisement, however, the content contains NOTHING new from last week's article/DPE release. The stock has moved into stronger hands today and the short interest ironically more likely went up rather than down. The biggest surprise would be a strong rally through 80 into options expiration, but none of this volatility will matter soon anyway.

    • Great job PB! This is not borderline criminal...it is criminal... The response to these attempts are getting weaker and weaker....The spring is coiled! It will not take much to start this fire...

      Sentiment: Buy

    • Great research
