One easily overlooked and very significant aspect of last night's PNG National article is that this is the first time ever that Petroleum and Energy Minister William Duma has acknowledged that InterOil's social mapping requirement has been completed. In fact, Duma had always been quick to point out to the press over the past year that FID could not be imminent because social mapping was not completed. This is very encouraging and seems to imply that FID and the consequent booking of proven reserves for InterOil could occur soon after the company announces its partner selection.
