Pricey hip, knee surgery no guarantee of better results
FWIW CNBC's website has an article (search thread title) reporting results of a knee and hip surgery survey by the NerdWallet, which identified top 10 hospitals for high quality and low price and top 10 most expensive knee and hip hospitals. Only one MAKO installation was listed in the former (Kenmore Mercy NY) and none in the latter.
Thanks aviacionado. The original article at nerdwallet is slightly different and based on it MAKO has three hospitals in the top 10 for quality and least expensive if you include the two Maryland hospitals. That being said I'm not sure I trust the methodology she used as she admits it's from datamining CMS info and I'm not convinced she's accurately accounted for both the facility charge and physician charges in all instances. FWIW, the Hospital for Specialized Surgery (HSS) in NY once again took the #1 spot for ortho services in the US World News & Report Annual Survey. They have two commercial MAKO RIOs.
