10:36 AM EDT, 07/21/2014 (MT Newswires) -- GE's Distributed Power business (GE) announced on Monday that its channel partner in Mexico, Smith Power Mexico S de RL de CV, will provide gas engine technology to contractor SEISA for Enerkin SAPI de C.V.'s (Enerkin) new combined heat-and-power (CHP) plant in Mexico.
Enerkin is an independent power producer in the state of Yucatan.
The new CHP project will use three of GE's Jenbacher two-stage J624 gas engine generator sets to produce 13.125 megawatts of electric power and 13,800 pounds per hour of saturated steam from the exhaust of the units.
The company said that the electric power produced would be used to power the existing plants of the shareholders with the surplus energy being wheeled to the Federal Electricity Commission's (CFE) grid. The saturated steam produced from the engine exhaust is to be used as process steam in the Proteinas y Oleicos manufacturing plant.
Shares in GE were down 2.42% to $25.82 shortly after main markets opened on Monday. The company has traded between $22.92 and $28.09 over the past 52 weeks.
