Pis be careful that the smell is actually roes and not manure---sometimes if you have a head cold you can't tell the difernce!!!
Ah, you are on the mark, that smell is good old manure being cultivated about those wonderful roses. We just need a good rain and some Spring Weather to make them "bloom".
