How much do immigrants cost California?

The answer turns out to be: a lot.

The following data are from Chapter 6 of the 1997 NAS study "The New Americans" whose link I posted earlier today.

"Combining the state and local public sectors, native households pay an additional $1,178 per household in revenues above services received to support a net fiscal transfer to the average immigrant-headed household of $3,463."

(As I noted in my earlier post, this study combines legal and illegal immigrants. It is reasonable to conclude that the average transfer payment to an illegal immigrant households is higher than $3,463. It would be interesting to know how much higher, and what proportion of the $1,178 per native household goes to illegal immigrant households.)

The NAS study then goes on to include federal transfer payments in the mix:

"The estimates of local and state fiscal balances can be combined with the estimates of federal government fiscal balances...to yield estimates of the net annual fiscal impact of all current immigrant-headed households in... California on the native residents...[The net annual fiscal impact]from the federal budget on California residents is $4 per native household."

In summary, immigrants generate a very small positive cash flow into native California households from the federal budget, and impose a very large negative cash flow on native California households from state and local budgets. The combined effect is an annual cost (in 1997) of $1,174 per native household ($1,178 -4 = 1,174).

    • Arnold's memory seems to have grown a little dim since he started running for governor.

      From CNN today:

Schwarzenegger has shifted his response to the recent discovery overnight, claiming on Thursday he couldn't remember the article.

During a campaign stop in Fresno, he was asked bout the article and he repeated three times that he had "no idea what they're talking about."

He told reporters he was in Fresno to push his economic agenda.

"That's what I'm doing," he said. "I'm not paying any attention to all of those things. I have no memory of any of the articles I did 20 or 30 years ago."

    • I don't allege anything. Arnold spoke for himself:

Arnold Schwarzenegger once told a magazine interviewer about participating in an orgy with other bodybuilders, noting that "everybody jumped on" the woman involved and "took her upstairs where we all got together." The California Republican added that not every muscleman participated in the gang bang, "just the guys who can fuck in front of other guys. Not everybody can do that. Some think that they don't have a big-enough cock, so they can't get a hard-on."

Schwarzenegger's lewd talk appeared in the August 1977 issue of Oui, an adult magazine then published by Playboy Enterprises. The five-page Schwarzenegger interview was conducted by author Peter Manso and flagged on the magazine's cover with the headline, "Arnold Schwarzenegger on the Sex Secrets of Bodybuilders."

At the time of the Oui story, Schwarzenegger, then 29, was appearing in "Pumping Iron," a documentary on the bodybuilding circuit. In the Q&A with Manso, today's gubernatorial wannabe spoke about his sex life, drug usage, and belief that men "shouldn't feel like fags just because they want to have nice-looking bodies."

Schwarzenegger even entertained a question about his penis size. When Manso asked, "Is your cock disproportionate to the rest of you?" Schwarzenegger replied, "Well, that depends on what you mean by disproportionate. The cock isn't a muscle, so it doesn't grow in relation to the shoulders, say, or the pectorals. You can't make it bigger through exercise, that's for sure." He added that "women have told me they're curious about its size--you know, outgoing chicks who're just trying to be outrageous or horny. I hear all kind of lines, including 'Oh, you're hurting me; you're so big.' But it means nothing. Bodybuilders' cocks are the same size as everyone else's."

Want to read the whole interview, just as it appeared in Oui? Here's the link:

    • lucky7,

watch those burgers. they ain't too healthy not to mention what type of meat they are processed from.

risk is much lower if your cook all the juices out (stop running/oozing) which meant that most of the fat dripped out and no chance for ecoli to be active.

this weekend, i am Bee-Brick-Cue-ing pork loin. Fxxk the Cold-less-tau-roy. enjoy.

    • Boz, Arnold admitted his past...quite the party guy while he was a body builder.

He's not hiding behind it and he didn't say something stupid like, "I never inhaled".

Bustamente doesn't hide either, he clearly wants California for his fellow Mexicans...I'm sure they will try and take Texas next, heck, there are evn border towns ON THE US SIDE in Texas that have changed the official language to Spanish...

      Someone somewhere will defend that...

    • If you like fresh strawberries and fruit then maybe you should take it easy.

    • On the road, this weekend, I heard an interview with Gary Coleman and laughed all the way home. When asked who the Vice President is, he stuttered and said that he didn't know! Asked on issues, he sounded so off the wall that I couldn't believe he thought that anyone would actually take him seriously. As it turns out, he doesn't, he is just having fun (so he said) at the taxpayers and donators expense. What a world, what a world. And on that note, I am off to start the Bar-B for the burgers. The grilling burn-ban is lifted for the time being!
