Well, that's the logic he has for universal background checks for gun addicts. "Criminals will still get guns, so why try to stop them at all?"
Following that logic: "Drug addicts can still get drugs, so why try to stop them?"
Why enact laws that favor career criminals at the expense of the sane and law abiding? These laws are not enforced against drug-dealing gangs.
betty thinks the criminals vote democrat...so she supports them over those law abiding folks who 'might' vote republican. It's all about the party.....not about the country with these partisan hacks.
I think you are painting with a really broad brush here. Drug laws are enforced, but its a prohibition. It is as successful and pointless as alcohol prohibition was 90 years ago.
If you want to cut down drug harm, that is people ruining their lives with drugs, follow the lead of Portugal.
Portugal stopped all user possession arrests and imprisonments. Net result? Drug use has dropped.
Google Portugal drug success. Other than one nut who hates it all, the results are positive.
Also a background check is the least we can do.
In reality, if stop one accidental shooting or one murder by universal background checks, it is a great success.
It will stop some idiots for sure.
You will need to detect and punish straw buyers as well. The NY man barred from purchasing firearms -- because he had been convicted of beating his grandmother to death with a hammer -- simply asked the girl next door to buy some for him.
