Americans Widely Back Government Job Creation Proposals
Seven in 10 favor business tax breaks and infrastructure repair programs
by Jeffrey M. Jones
PRINCETON, NJ -- Americans widely support each of three job creation proposals, including offering tax breaks to businesses that create jobs in the U.S. and a program that would put people to work on urgent infrastructure repair projects. Support for these programs is only slightly lower in a variant of the question that asks respondents if they are in favor of spending government money to pay for the programs.
Job creation proposals enjoy widespread public support, including majority backing among all party groups, even when the issue of government spending is raised in an era when deficit reduction is one of the major priorities for the federal government. Despite the high levels of support for the job creation proposals, the political realities in Washington are such that Congress has not passed any of the proposals since President Obama first advocated many of these more than a year ago. The major sticking point with jobs legislation -- as with most other measures being considered in Washington -- may not be whether the programs should be pursued but whether the government should pay for them through increased taxes or cuts in other government programs.
Unc, problem is that this goes back to the other poll where they think GOP ideas are really democrap ideas. Oblunder is killing small business with Oblundercare and regulations. Nobody is against government spending money on infrastructure that is actually needed but Oblunders "shovel ready" spending went way beyond needed infrastructure. Local community spent $500K on 2 pedestrian bridges in a local park. That $500k was a waste pure and simple, but the project was across a corp of engineering creek on city property so it qualified as "shovel ready". It did employee 10 people for about a month. Wow, what a great use of money.
This is just 1 example in 1 small community. Stories like this exist all over the country.
stupid, Yes there are wastes and fraud in the Recover Act, just like folks fooling around inside HP or Google instead of working, or purchased of toners to replace those still quarter full or worker's home printers. Hence minimize the wastes and frauds, but move on those projects to repair bridges, update sewers, roads, FAA controls,... power grids.
Translation - 5 years into his recession, obama will focus like a laser on job creation. Psst, barry - you don't really need to focus a laser; work on your idioms. FedEx numbers today hint at another slowdown; that can't be good.
On a positive note, the hacked Hillary emails seem to point to admin pre-knowledge of the attacks in Benghazi*. I wonder when she starts to throw him under the bus. You have to know she's been biding her her time, and now she has an opening - Barry may find his next few years to be very difficult. Sad face.
*acknowledging that these may have been altered by hacker, who may or may not be on the payroll of a Clinton.
una, the election is over. the people had spoken and continues to support steps to create jobs today. The do-nuthin' Congress need to stop protecting the egregious loopholes for the very few and join the rest of us to create jobs ASAP.
