Would it make sense for TD Ameritrade to acquire ailing Morgan Stanley?

Again, doesn't anyone have any knowledge of the ownership structure of AMTD? It's not like it's difficult to find, or it's hidden. AMTD is minority owned through stock by Toronto Dominion Financial Group (TD). AMTD is a separate company that was sold off by Toronto Dominion bank, but kept the name. If you're going to own a stock, don't you think that you should know something about the corporate structure?

There is no reason why a Canadian bank (TD, for instance), couldn't own an American investment bank. There are a couple of Canadian banks operating in the US already.

For anyone who thinks that Canadian banks are some kind of boogeymen, just have a look at their records and respective share prices. They fared a hell of a lot better than US banks, have more stable portfolios, are better regulated and have solid, long term dividends. They don't back ridiculous mortgages or engage in stupid ponzi-scheme financials. That's why Canadian banks are the most stable banks in the world. That's a fact. Don't rag me about the statement.

US banks have no transparency, and until some sort of federal regulation is imposed on them, they'll continue to use the public to line their purses with taxpayer money, scandal after scandal, fiasco after fiasco.

There are worse things that could happen to US investment banks than the Canadians taking them over. The Canadians could do us all a favor by taking out these loose cannons.

    • Agreed. Indeed. Not sure who you are lecturing and why....or why you ventured out of your Canadian Bank message boards. I was looking to the forum on whether it may be advantageous to acquire a wounded Morgan Stanley. Rag? Funny stuff.
