No stock bs here. most of the fees on items under 20 have doubled. small items are now 25%. I am done after 12 years. When the time is right I will short this pig. They had it all, but if they lost me, they will loose many others. I made 200K on the original ipo, sold for 12 years and made another 200k, but its absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with. That includes cell phone companies and cable liars/ cheats. I fully believe there will be a mass exodus the likes of which has neveer been seen in a stock before. This will be way worse than when coke changed the formula, becasue people will not return. I will never sell again on Ebay.
Sentiment: Strong Sell
Correct. Fees have gone up by at least 200% BEFORE YOU SELL YOUR FIRST ITEM. After the fact, high ticket items are now subject to an almost 300% increase.
So much for eBay being a profitable company. Excessive corporate greed has spelled the end of this once lucrative C2C business platform. CEO and executive management want to be compensated more than 10x the President of the US. Only a matter of time until the SEC and FTC step in to clamp down on eBay and Paypal.
I am short this at about 54.50, but I am an eBay user. It's hard to be "done" with eBay since the only real alternative I can think of are craigslist and local classifieds. Am I missing something? Fundamentally you are completely right about fees. Things started going haywire with the PayPal acquisition, which made a partnership outright incest.
The fees on more expensive items have not just doubled, they have more than tripled. Ebay customer service is telling those who complain to use other internet sights and they will even recommend alternative sites to the sellers.
A powerseller customer service representative told me that ebays only concern is Amazon. That is it. Ebay wants Amazons sellers to switch to ebay, and ebay does not care at all if it loses all of its current sellers as long as it gets Amazons sellers. I sell mostly in the collectibles category. The representative stated that ebay no longer wants to be considered a flea market and does not want used items sold on the site any more. That is why they are trying to force sellers of used items off of ebay. I cant understand how this can be good for profits. Why not keep all of the sellers and get money from everyone. ebay management doesn't care though and just wants to transform ebay into Amazon at all costs.
"does not want used items sold on the site any more. That is why they are trying to force sellers of used items off of ebay."
That isn't true in fact it's an outright LIE
If Ebay wanted used items off the site they would eliminate the used tab when choosing new or used. . .
Mass exodus is right. I started keeping tabs of the number of listings in several categories last week to see if the May 1 fee change would reduce listings. All categories watched are down by over 10% already. Wait until Monday when the last batch of the 200,000 free auction listings from the end of last month expire.
