I don't have the exact #'s but I think about 1500 so far and another 2000 to go. There is a deal in the works that would like the furloughed guys fly at Eagle but the # of positions is still being worked out. Also the 2000 more might be a worst case but that is what mgmt has said
Lots of the pilots I know look for a flying job and then end up finding work outside the industry. The few flying jobs that are out there pay crap, and you will not see your famliy much if you have one.
I am hearing a large number of stories about furloughed pilots who are looking for flying jobs and can not find them, most I hear about are having to take other jobs that are not even involved with aviation.

Normally when a pilot gets to a major airline, he sticks it out and does not go looking for work (unless they get furloughed). When they can they will get big $ and when things suck they will take big pay cuts. I am sure most are pissed about the pay cuts but that's life. Lots of pilots (not just at AMR ) are looking at the DAL pilots and hope they do not agree to serious pay cuts. If they don't then next contract, everyone will try to get DAL pay and it will likly get it.
>>> That's fantastic. If they get closer to BK and the stock dives we can pick it up cheap and when they don't file BK make tons of money from our long shares and options. Another AMR! <<<
Or maybe it's another UAL where the unions didn't all agree and the airline went BK, wiping out the common stock.
Flip your coin and place your bets.

Oh, there's no doubt DAL pilots will eventually take a cut.
But they have little incentive to do so until DAL gets closer to BK.
I know plenty of senior pilots at major airlines and they are all worried about keeping their jobs, not whether they will get a pay increas. If DAL pilots do not accept a sizable pay cut there will not be a DAL in the future.
