So how did higher education become something that people bet on? University of Phoenix is a predatory enterprise, propped up by people who could care less about education or democracy. Well you might win in the short run with your speculation, but the gig will be up as more citizens understand that money to Phoenix means less money to their local schools. And that this failure factory is being almost completely subsidized with federal, state, and local funds.

      Sentiment: Strong Sell

      • Yes, University of Phoenix has a large number of students going to school on military educational assistance programs. This is because University of Phoenix offered the first and still the best distance learning opportunity for US military personnel deployed in other countries.

        Sentiment: Hold

      • if anything is subsidized it is the community college and state university systems....they not only get the "subsidy" of having students be able to pay with college with grant and loan money...but they get the additional subsidy of having their operating costs paid for through taxes on the puiblic........for-profit universities actually have to survive like a business enterprise....and do it 10 times more efficiently that the gpovernment can do anything.....just look at the post office vs FedEx....government bundles everything it controls...... For profit universities serve a purpose and a sector of consumers that are not being served now or are dissatisfied with the service being provided now.......just like charter schools....the government has been trying for the past 5 years to turn public opinion on both of these because neither employ government workers.....they represent competition

      • Haha, your funny dahn, because our school system isn't completely subsidized with federal, state and local funds? Come on, get real. You were late to the party, drank the coolaid, so your could be one of the cool kids, and are now getting your bottom spanked. It's ok to have an opinion, but just know when it's wrong and change your position, or get out. Don't get emotional.
