As a NOV holder, I don't like the dividend idea. NOV is a growth company not VZ. If NOV holders want income just sell covered calls. The stock is going to drop $1.1 early next week because of the big dividend.
Your logic certainly makes sense and many stocks become laggards while trying to keep pace with their dividend payments. However, I think this is a good sign not only financially, but it also is an illustration of management's mindset.
I'm also long on Swedish juggernaut ABB, which has been very easy to trade over the last few years and shares a nice dividend.
I'm in the crowd that expects oil to slowly rise and level off around $100 a barrel, which also bodes well for long term expectations of NOV.
