10-Nov-10 08:25 LOPE Grand Canyon Education: Enrollment appears to be sustainable and is less counter-cyclical - Barrington (18.24 )
Firm notes that with a majority of LOPE's students (70%) enrolled in health care and education (which are in high demand) and 44% of these students enrolled in master's degree programs, LOPE's enrollment appears to be sustainable and is less counter-cyclical than those colleges focused on shorter-term degree and certificate/diploma programs (like CECO, COCO, ESI, LINC and UTI) and, as such, should be less impacted by an eventual resumption in job creation. Also, while strategic shifts (borrow-based to enrollment-based) and controlled growth (improving student body quality) will have a short-term impact on growth, the earnings growth rate is still robust and longer term will lead to higher quality of earnings. Firm reiterates Outperform rating.
