I have just received the most interesting offer from the good folks at TD Ameritrade. It reads as follows:
"Put the powerful tools, products and research of TD AMERITRADE behind more of your portfolio with this exciting offer. Make a qualifying deposit by July 31 and you'll receive a free Garmin nüvi 660 Navigation System."
Unfortunately, in large part due to Garmin's stock performance, I will be unable to make a qualifying deposit. However, if there were any shorts on the board, I wanted to make you aware of this most generous offer.
Of course is can be invested. AMTD wants you to invest that money so they can get some fees (which is perfectly fine). That's their whole purpose here--new customers.
I'm already an AMTD customer, but did not explicitly get the offer (a friend did, though). So I'm going to try to get it anyway. . .and expect to be disappointed. But they have paid out on numerous other offers in the past (including an iPod that I sold for almost $300 on Ebay). I might actually keep this GPS.
Not a Garmin stock holder but I just took them up on their deal. Too good to pass up. I moved $50K from a 3.5% account to Ameritrade where I get 2.5%. So I lose a little interest for a bit (8-10 weeks) but I get a cool GPS unit for my car. I wonder what kind of deal Garmin is giving Ameritrade on this deal? If any. I think Ameritrade just wants to bring in more assets under their management.
georgebc53:: Do you even read the fine print??? Or you don't understand what you read???? You have to leave your money in the account for 12 months or they charge you for the product.
I copy and paste their agreement here:
The minimum funding requirement for a Garmin nüvi 660 is $50,000; the minimum funding for a Garmin nüvi 660 and a $200 Shell Gift Card is $100,000....... Please allow 8-10 weeks from minimum funding date to receive the product(s). TD AMERITRADE reserves the right to replace product(s) with one of equal or greater value. Account must remain open with minimum funding required for participation in the offer for 12 months, or TD AMERITRADE may charge the account for the cost of the product(s).
