Just a few years ago Garmin sold nearly all devices thru retailers. Within the last few years it seems most mass market devices have been available directly from Garmin on their web site (a much more profitable transaction). Today I found an ad for a golf device targeted directly to me (via a website having nothing to do with golf or Garmin or gps), which linked to the Garmin site. So now they're aggressively marketing direct. It strikes me that this has the potential to markedly improve Garmin's margins and profits for a broad range of products. I haven't been listening to conference calls lately; any mention of this strategy by management?
