    The Good News Is . . .

. . . While it was an up week for all the major market indices, most biotech stocks got pummelled this week on no news of their own. It's a very ugly picture. Of the several dozen biotech companies I follow, the majority suffered losses of approx. 10% this week. A significant number lost between 4%-10%, and only less than 1 out of 10 biotech stocks that I follow gained for the week.

PTIE closed last week at 6.5 and this week at 6.4. Compared to PTIE's peers, the stock performed at about the 85th-90th percentile for the week. Pretty darn good.

I don't offer the above for any sort of TA - that's something I don't bother with too much. I simply note PTIE's performance compared to others as an interesting piece of objective data.

The other good news is that several of these biotechs are currently at very enticing valuations. Now, I just have to hope that I still have money after the Oxytrex data release and that these other companies remain "dead money" for another few weeks.

    • There're others, but one easy way to compare PTIEs performance against the market is using Yahoos charting function. Plug in both PTIE & BBH (Biotech Holders) or PPH (Pharmaceutical Holders) and compare to market indicators like S&P, NAS or Dow. Different time-frame options are available.
