Why are Liberals so Stingy When it Comes to Charity
I heard of some people that needed help In Joplin when the tornado hit them so I reached into my pocket and donated to an NGO Disaster relief fund. That made me feel good. I heard about some missionary doctors who were providing healthcare to poor people in Honduras. Same thing - I reached into my own pocket and sent a donation.
Democrats don't like to help people this way. They prefer to help people with other people's money rather than their own. Take Joe Biden for example. According to their 2010 tax returns, the vice president and his wife donated a total of $5,350 to charity, a mere 1.4 percent of their sizable $379,178 in pretax earnings and well below the average amount donated by their more generous countrymen. According the the Bureau of Labor statistics, Americans gave an average of 2.2 percent of their pre-tax income to charity. In the decade before his nomination to be vice president, Biden and his wife donated about 0.2 percent of their income, averaging a measly $369 in annual donations.
The Obamas did slightly better. They gave almost 6 percent of their $5.5 million joint income to charity. Much of their income came from the president's two bestselling books.
These statistics should come as no surprise, because the Obamas and the Bidens apparently do not subscribe to the ancient addage "charity begins at home." Their pittance in charitable gifts seem to indicate their faith in charity beginning with government. It's not that they can't afford to give more. After all, we the taxpayers are subsidizing their housing -- the Obamas residen in the fancy digs that are the White House; the Bidens in Blair House, the vice president's mansion located along Washington's fancy Embassy Row.
While they are giving less, they want to create conditions under which the rest of us are less likely to give more. The administration wants to curb deductions so that government will get more of our money and charities will get less of it.The rationale: the more people who are dependent on government, the greater liklihood they will keep voting for Democrats to keep the government checks coming. To them, God is not God; government is god.
Seen this way, there is no hypocrisy in the stingy charitable giving of the Obamas and Bidens. One gives to the "god" one worships.
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:21
Unlike our President and especially our VP, I have never given less than 10% of my income to those in need. Be it New orleans, Japan, Joplin or NY,NJ my average gifts have excceded 10% of my income.
What makes me sick is those who can afford much more don't give enough.
Case in point, where does all the money go from Mr. and Mrs. Gates?
The majority goes to Africa. And for what?
To continue a birth rate that is the highest in the world??
And the children have no chance of living very long due to famine and lack of water?
How much did the super rich give to the previous mentioned disasters?
I doubt they even gave 1%.
The suffering of these people over the last few years deserves more than what they have given.
I'm not a liberal but I feel that the super rich need tro give more when needed.
Our VP should be ashamed of himself. The cheap skate.
I think I know why many of the rich don't give more.
Because they know that the majority of those dollars are siphend off elsewhere.
Good point......and I like the way super rich champagne and limousine liberals set up charitable foundations so their charitable money can go where they choose but then tell the common folks they need to forget about choosing and pay higher taxes so government elitists can choose how to spend those charitable dollars for them. It's hypocrisy at its worst......and I won't even go into how they use those foundations to evade taxes, pay for personal expenses and employ relatives and friends all with non-taxable money.
