If this EDSEL of an airplane has to be written offf ...
... how much will it be? When Ford wrote the Edsel off in the late 50's it was to the tune of a billion plus in those dollars. It was very bad for the time. Yet they survived and eventually thrived with the Mustang.
If Boeing scraps this dog (won't even be able to get scrap metal for it since it is mainly composite fiber) how much will it cost? How much will it hurt the company? How much will the stock drop?
I think it could be upwards of 50 billion, will hurt it a lot, and the stock will drop 40 to 50%.
You think that they will ask for a government bailout?
The company is based in Chicago. That alone will be a big incentive for tax payer money.

This problem will be fixed and the 787 will fly again. How long it will take is anyones guess.
If they think it will take a while then they will come up with a work around temporary fix.
The U.S., Japan and China has the best people working on this problem.
A bad batch of batteries may be the problem. But how do you determin what a bad battery is from a good one? Over voltage may also be a problem.
Time will tell.
