major management shakeup
A little too short and sweet....sounds like he was forced out.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mercury General Corporation (NYSE: MCY - News) announced today that Jack Dougherty, Vice President of East Coast Operations, is no longer employed by the Company and will be pursuing other interests.

  Too bad the Mercury PR machine couldn't have incorporated news about Jack's replacement with his departure, which leads me to believe this was a forced and premature resignation/firing.
  
  With so much of Mercury's future growth dependent on business outside of California, why did their management not disclose a replacement?
