    • QWAK,paulohl,There are hybreds of many vegtables especialy tomatos that have been selectivly bread to do best in hydroponix. Like most things having to do with growing food ther are many variables. Hydroponics allows for vertualy total control of most of the variables but to do so requires a lot of time and disaplin to get a concistently good product. What I was working on was making it as autimated as posable so I did not have to spend a lot of time daily messing with toping off water and changing solutions, etc. seting up a hydroponic garden can be as simple as two plastic pots one inside the other and filled with gravil to a fully autimated gigantic green house. the DUCK

    • The plants that I grow the old fashioned way set fruit.

About three years ago, we had so much rain and so little sunshine that the tomatoes were worthless; no taste at all for the few fruits that we got.

    • QWAK,paulohl,I have not grown out doors as I was mostly testing designs and controls for pumps and lights. Tomatoes are one of the best plants to grow hydroponicly because of the high water content of the fruit. The problem with not seting fruit could have many diferent causes, concintration of chemicals and ratioes. There are diferent ratios of chemicals for vegitative and flouring. There are also hormones that can help set flours. A book or two and some reading will save you a lot of time and effort over trial and earror. the DUCK

    • Have you tried growing hydroponically outdoors?

Do the plants yield well. My experience with growing in containers is that the plants tend to be small and do not yield much. I suspect that plants have many more roots than we see with out eyees and that those roots take a long trip looking for nutrients when the plants are planted in the ground, but when they are in a container they just grow round and round.

My father had a 20 gallon container that he grew 2 tomato plants in. One year he get too enthusiastic with the fertilizer. He had the largest plants, with monster leaves, and no tomatoes.

    • Michael, regarding your voluminous thought that comes from my simple statement of fact that the US dollar has declined irrespective of your belief that it will rise in the future as in the past:

      >>>RESPONSE: Most of the 17% decline in the U.S. Dollar Index has been due to the change in short-term interest rate differentials and the World's perception of U.S. leadership, which is becoming more negative with each passing day and utterance from President Bush.
Harvey..., those are economic and political factors. Insofar as many commodities are concerned, the prices had been so low as to diminish supply. Prices must rise to levels which will stimulate the production of those commodities. Basic economics 101A. E.g., years ago, coffee went to around 50 cents a pound, then a couple years or so later, after lack of care of the plants, supply diminished and the prices escalated to over $3.00 per pound due to that constriction in supply.<<<

LOL!! If you analyzed KO like you do monetary policies, you would look backwards and currently be predicting a price of $120! Woulda, coulda, shoulda mentality is beneath you, but it seems you sacrifice insight and learning with b.s. Michael, please, take the time to listen and understand other people's views. You are over your head in analyzing monetary policy. Please stop attributing the dollar decline to leadership, and other issues. You don't know. And the simple case you provided for "coffee" justifies me in saying that the US dollar should decline due to oversupply and past strong demand! LOL!! You are blowing smoke in a big way and I've thankfully pulled out my lung protector...

    • REGARDING: But presently, i.e. for about a year now, offshore dollars are not staying in US monetary paper as you present. The USD has declined against commodities and other major monetary assets like the Euro, Swiss Franc and gold. You really have to start becoming a realist re. monetary policy as well as study up a bit.- And please, stop mixing economics and business changes with monetary policy...

By the way..., from which Canu lesson are you instructing today?

      best,

    • QWAK,paulohl, LOL A lot of questions! :) Back in the 80s I got interested in hydroponics, I like to INVENT so had up to 6 independent units going at one time. Each was diferent but mostely they were all flood and drain systems. They were also ART SCULPTURES that I grew house plants in to demonstrate and test designs. The pumps are usualy small fountan pumps about 200 to 250 GPH. I used lots of diferent grow media from pee gravel to pirlite. The grow solutions depend on what you are growing as to chemicals also what scale you are growing on. If you grow vegies you either need to monitor content with a small lab or total change every weak or two. Water needs to be added almost constently to replace what evaporates. Almost any container can be turned in to a hydroponic garden, for a GAG I set up an old camode over a 5 gal tank. The pump would fill the tank at the back and to water the garden you FLUSHED! People got a big kick out of it! All pumps and lights were on timers It was kind of COOL my living room was like a indoor garden and I always had SUNSHINE from two 500 watt high pressure sodium lights. What can I say I like to INVENT. the DUCK

    • Michael, regarding:

      >>>RESPONSE: I hate to wake you up, but those hundreds of billions of offshore U.S. Dollars are going into "paper", not machinery and equipment which is a wee bit more unwieldy than is "paper".<<<

Before you stated the above, you presented past history and stated future history will be similar. Maybe you are right. Maybe not.

But presently, i.e. for about a year now, offshore dollars are not staying in US monetary paper as you present. The USD has declined against commodities and other major monetary assets like the Euro, Swiss Franc and gold. • Would you like to tell about your hydroponic experience? How do you support the plants? What size containers for tomatoes? Zucchini? Pole beans? Peas? How does the solution get back to the pump? If the solution dries up do you need more chemicals or just more water? What do you use for containers? Pumps?

    • REGARDING: Most people today have NEVER held a real GOLD coin in their hands, paper, pot metal and plastic is what most people NOW concider to be money but until very recently for about 5000 years GOLD was the ONLY REAL MONEY and it REALY still IS!;) the DUCK

RESPONSE: Mr. Duck..., you are spinning your wheels.
I suggest you get a gold chart denominated in Yen and/or Eurodollars. The charts will tell the story. Please don't attempt to outguess.
You and our President have something in common now. His height and the Nation's low was 9/11. Your height would be IF we go to war...., but even then, you must not continue the ride until you see $280.00.

      best,

      Michael Z.
