    What is a democracy?

I consider a democracy a place where I can walk outside in my community and venture from town to town in my state and country without fearing for my life. Democracy guarantees equality in terms of sex, race, age, religion.

In no way is Iraq a democratic country.

    • QWAK,Bear,Both HEAVEN and HELL are RIGHT HEAR in and on--- EARTH!

You come here with NO GOLD and LEAVE the SAME WAY,in between, You do what you can to GET SOME GOLD or as most do, a FACTSIMILY they CALL money, which is just a SUBSTITUTE for GOLD.

It all represents the POWER to get OTHERS do do things YOU want them to do,turn over property to you or do a SERVICE for YOU.

When you leave THIS demention of REALITY, none of THAT is NESSARY ----- including the GOLD! :)

    • REGARDING: I don't understand your inability to follow the logical course we have been on low these many years. There wouldn't have been a civil rights movement if those ideas I suggested were not inherent in the very notion of democracy. We have, albeit not smoothly been moving toward the logical outcome of what a belief in democracy means.

RESPONSE: Democracy, mixed with experience, knowledge, and logic should lead to the betterments you have described, but democracy, itself, does not, necessarily, include those "bells" and "whistles".

    • REGARDING: Iraq, and the Middle East policies, play a very insignicant fiscal role. One may argue that our society's paranoia is permitting our domestic programs to be tipped out of control.

RESPONSE: You may have reached an illogical conclusion.

      1) $300 billion and counting cannot be considered to be insignificant
      2) The importation of 8 million barrels of oil per day at $30 per barrel higher than it would otherwise have been ($240 million per day, $87 billion per year!) should not be considered to be insignificant

    • RE: "has"...

i think those 2 dudes are long gone...and don't have anything....remeber..."you can't take it with you"

(gold is the one exception...cause they pave the streets up there with gold..thus they constantly need more and more of the stuff)

    • QWAK,canucanoe,Once they get a guy ELECTED, it is like having a BALL on a STRING and THEY can PULL the STRING any time they NEED TO!

      TRY it!
      http://www.geocities.com/clownstaples/swf/ballonstring.html

You can, in a HARMLESS WAY, feel like Rockefeller or Kennedy(and SOooooo many OTHERS) and PULL the STRING TOO! :)

      the DUCK

    • REGARDING: Our form of Democracy declares we have been given inalienable rights, not by government but by our creator.
RESPONSE: A "declaration" does not affect the definition.

REGARDING: Democracy to me means some dude can have his picture taken with a maple tree, while in a dress and say, You want some syrup?
RESPONSE: You may be confusing democracy with freedom.

    • QWAK,canucanoe,What maks YOU think that Rockefeller did NOT get EXACTLY what he wanted? HUMmmmmmmmmmmmmm??

With as much money and power as Rockefeller has, HE can, and am reasonably SHURE DOES, work both sides of a situation and MAKE OUT better all around,ALL he realy NEEDS to know is WHAT "IS" going to happen,it is ALSO very helpfull to KNOW WHEN, but knowing "WHAT" is most important to PREPOSITION for best ADVANTAGE!

Joe Kennedy has a boat load of SCOTCH WISKEY prepositioned out side the 3 mile limit of N.Y. CITY when proabition was repealed----KNOWING shure helped HIM even, if it also hurt his BOOTLEGING and SMUGELING business. ;)

    • I do not disagree with your post. I really think we are in a situation now where the people we elect, locally or at the federal level, only know how to add or spend more to make a particular constituency happy. I do not believe anyone could seriously get elected at more than a local level, by saying I will cut spending and waste and get the government out of your lives or it is not a federal matter. Our elected officials do not know how to, or do not want to cut. Look at the size of the tax code, or how many gun laws we have. Make any sense? Reagan had a good tease with the Grace Commission, come on, we saved 5$. The political spectrum has moved so far left that in 10 years all my jokes will be Republican jokes, cause the Democrats will have fallen off the scene.

      Go Whigs!!!!

    • That is what the founders said, I think you can still find it in a history book. That is what made our constitution different from others. Our rights are not from the government.

    • I don't understand your inability to follow the logical course we have been on low these many years. There wouldn't have been a civil rights movement if those ideas I suggested were not inherent in the very notion of democracy. We have, albeit not smoothly been moving toward the logical outcome of what a belief in democracy means.
