    Putin says support America

in Iraq. What's your take Alpha?

    1. Is he jumping on the bandwagon
    ...a la France in WWII?
    2. Is he congealing the quagmire,
...a la France in our Vietnam war?
    3. Is he smarter than you,
and seeking his cut from a mission gaining success?

Or do you have some other insight that has Putin doing an about face after just meeting, face to face, with Schroeder and Chirac? Seems to me the world is not so dark as you present.

    • Alpha, I'll buy into its a 'Civil War'. In its nascent stages. The question is if it is of a style like our Civil War, like the IRA vs. Great Britain or the Basques vs. Spain. Even so, there are greater goals within the Middle East that are being addressed. Cutting and running doesn't do us any good, within Iraq or the Middle East.

    • Which part of its a civil war are you having trouble understanding Canudle. Iraqi police and politicians are a somewhat easier target. None of which changes the fact that neither the Sunniis nor the Shiites really like us. And we are wasting American lives at this point.

      Alpha

    • Alpha, seems to me that a whole lot of Iraqi policemen and politicians are being killed. They are on the front line along with our soldiers. These deaths alone vastly outnumber American soldier deaths and... wounded. You choose to ignore this. That's very clearly presented as an 'Ugly American' trait in the book of the same name.

    • Wonderful post blady. If only more of the World recognized us as such.

      alpha

    • Food for thought... rec'd in an email today.
You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote the following to let everyone know what an American is... so they would know when they found one. (Good on ya, mate!!!!)

An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek.

An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani, or Afghan.

An American may also be a Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim.

In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.

The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need.

When the Soviet army overran Afghanistan 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan.

Americans welcome the best, the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best athletes. But they also welcome the least

The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. I've been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 other countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you mustemail today.

    • Now you are being down right stupid, Canudle. We are not caught in the cross fire. We are shouldering the Shiite battle against the Sunniis. Cant comment whether the Sunniis hate us or the Shiite more. I'll leave that to the reporters and historians of the region.

      Alpha

    • Nice to see that ypur European travels have not improved your myopia. Suggest you begin to widen that travel to include the Middle East.

Be advised... Less hate does not equate to love.

      Alpha

    • Alpha, you have a self respect problem that you are transfering to "America". As for:

      >>>Get a clue Canudle. Let me make it simple. Kurds are OK with the US. No great love, but recognize they need our help for their goals. The Sunniis and Shiites overwhelming despise us. And don;t look too closely. You may actually recognize that the Sunnis that are killing mostly Shiites are killing them because of their perceived cooperation with the US occupier. <<<

Utterly false. Sunnis were killing Shiites by the carload decades before America arrived on Iraqi soil. Sunnis and Shiites will continue to kill each other based on tribal history and on gaining control of the power base of their land. It won't matter at all if America is present. And I will finally note, as I have said many times earlier, they are killing each other in substantial numbers, with Americans caught in the crossfire.

    • Alpha, you need to get out some. Your views are tunneled from the media extravaganzas organized to feed your beloved newspapers with front page news.

      >>>Expect the Middle East probalby truly likes the US as well.<<<

The Sunnis sure don't like us. That is much of the ruling class of the Middle East. Kurds love us. Finally we have reversed our stab in their back of the early '90s. Shiites, I am sure, prefer us to Saddam, so relatively speaking, yes, I think they love us some. Probably love us as much as we loved the French in 1795. Yet... how is it that the French love Chirac only 28% now? I do think we would rank higher than that today!

      >>>As you criticize President's Carter and Clinton, no doubt you would have the same relevations about Bush I and Raegan if you viewed their foreign policy actions as well as speeches. You are really something of a simpleton in that regard. <<<

I do believe I included the full time period. Although I must say that the panderers were very clearly C and C, who bounded the awful policy period.

      >>>As I have said you are myopic. <<<

I've been going to Europe 1-3 months, each year, for almost 2 decades. I am myopic? I note you list none of your qualifications to declare such, except that you read the NY Times.

    • Get a clue Canudle.

Do I really have to explain this to you again and again. YOu are really dense on this central fact of Middle Eastern LIfe. Let me repeat it again. Contra to Canudle on teh World, that part of the globe overwhelmingly Hates the US. Overwhelmingly.

      Alpha
