Soda VOLUME down 5% in DEC

Its compared to last December which was much colder... Come June/July KO will be down 8% for the at home carbonated market.

December 2012 was the 10th warmest December on record; December 2011 was the 26th (out of 118 years). December 2011 was just about as warm in the northern United States as December 2012, so not really. Anyone who follows Coke knows the growth is internationally where per capita consumption is miniscule (China and India in particular) in comparison to the United States and Mexico. I don't think either Coke or Pepsi are sitting idly by without other beverage alternatives to soda.

      Sentiment: Hold

      • Funny you mention China, India and Mexico. Sodastream is also setting up shop in these countries. They will get the heavy soda drinker that is Ko's challenge. 4.9% decrease in DEC will IMO lead to an 8% decrease in the 1st q. Sodastream sold 500,000 machines plus during the holiday season. The tipping point was when Sodastream hot the shelf's in WMT back in July. KO is going to have a hard time keeping the multiple is all I'm saying when they are about to loose many customers to Sodastream.
