    Job Cuts at Coca-Cola Refreshments

Hearing through my contacts in the CCR Bottling system that a number of job eliminations took place today across the country as a new field sales span of control model was announced; impacting front-line sales. Less feet on the street at a critical time for the industry cannot be received as a positive step.

    • The number of "displaced" employees is at four figures this time around, and that doesn't account for the smaller departments that were lifted & shifted last year. CCE went through reorganizations every two or three years and CCR is continuing that trend.

A heck of a lot more than the sales dept. is being affected but sales had to have seen it coming with all of their layers. It's pretty sad that even with a stacked sales force we still had countless customers who say that they never knew they had an account manager because they never once heard from them, their orders would just show up (not to their liking half the time). Where's the AM? Go to the WiFi coffee shop and say hello.

      Sentiment: Buy

    • Closing an office in Sheboygan, eliminating 40 jobs. Is that why you are in a panic?

      • No. This took place systematically across the country last Thursday and Friday. Here in New England, CCR eliminated over 30 positions mostly Area and District Sales Managers responsible for brand & package promotional execution at the local level. May 1st is their last day with the implementation of the new North American business model. Account Manager to District Manager span of control is now 8:1 which is insane to be effective. Company direction is to spend no money, company cars went away and now more people gone. All signs pointing to the final spinoff of CCR rumored to happen within the next 18 months. Stay tuned!!

    • I work in the Los Angeles and yes you're correct regarding job eliminations. The company is lucky that the product sells itself because upper management has a lot to be desired. I'm surprised we are still in business as much as our customers dislike us.

      • You have not had much exposure to the Pepsi sales department. I worked for a company that sold chicken to KFC, when KFC was part of Pepsi. We had both Coke and Pepsi in our vending machines. When the idiot from Pepsi saw that we were selling Coke, he threatened to invalidate all purchase contracts with our company. We stared him down - we also got a new contact man.
