The Coca-Cola Company Message Board

Blow molding bottles is one area that KO should get out of. KO is what it is because it has a wide moat and could have 30% Return on Equity. What I saw of the bottle making industry is that there is so much competition to turn out identical products that there is little or no profit margin, The company that I was with was part of a big oil company that was producing PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) in surplus and was making bottles for Coke and Pepto and Kraft as a way to recover some of the costs of production. Big Oil spun the division off to Silgan Plastics. Coke would be better off contracting this work out to somebody else and use the money for CAPEX elsewhere.
