I can say there were good time and bad times . I worked 9.5 years not long as all the other guys in my shop. I was a Retail tech and spent around 9 months in Dayton Oh for schools . Back then it was a great place then they were sending us to school and it was not a teacher just a tv set . I had some great managers . I was hired 2 years before ATT bought it . I was hit by a van while while working on a ATM at a drive tru . I tried working and 3 managers worked with me as the doc said light duty only . Then come the big layoffs . There were guys that had been there over 35 years and all over 10 years were told retire now or get laid off . It was a sad time and there were only 2 of us left in that office . All the guys were told they would get health care and pay the same as regular techs still active with the company . Not to lang after that all those retires had to pay 100 over the active cost then it went 100 bucks every year. At that time the company had lied to all the retires . Then the bottom fell for me . My last great boss left and we were transferred to a different territory . That boss told me no light duty either work 100 percent of quit . I tried to fight and then I was working with a second ce working on a 7780 install and he was to do the heavy work he lost his grip the 7780 fell on me . I was taking to the hospital then a pain management doc said no lifting over 5 pounds lifting and no driving as I had a morphine infuser put in and I am still on morphine for the rest of my life . I went on LTD and shortly after on SSDI I can say if I could work I would stayed with the company just until I could have found another job. So yes is hated by quite a few due to all the lies the company said.
They flew me to dayton for training when I was first hired. Everyone was very nice their. The holiday inn their was very hospitable too. I enjoyed the food there after the training. I was fired last year because they said I was stealing from the ATMs that I serviced. I'm now a bus driver and have a set schedule which is much better. No more working on weekends and on call. My life is much better now, but I will always be fond of the good people and managers from NCR when I was first hired.
