FAMOUS Voice talent waste of money.

I still think studios are crazy to spend many millions for voice talent. You do not recognise most famous voice talent until you read the credits at the end of the movies. Most kids don't know them or don't care. It's a real waste of $$$$. What is spent in one movie for voice talent? 20-30 Million ?

    • Hiring a high paid actor to do the character's voice and then having said actor create an accent that makes the actor anomious (ie Alec Balwin with his imitation of Ivan the Terrible/Dracula) or having Chris Pine (who sounds like 5 of my friends) makes me question the intelligence of the excs at DWA.

    • It's Jeffrey's MO. For example, DWA is always at Cannes promoting an upcoming film with the talent. That talent is followed by the press who attend the publicity stunt. The press take pictures, write articles, etc that create buzz for the film. Also, DWA is very much about creating films not only for kids, but for the kid inside each adult. Many of those adults pay attention to the voice talent and may be interested to see the movie becuase it casts those celebs in a new light. Also, the talent isn't taking home checks similar to what they'd get for live action. One, they are interested in doing films like this becuase it's fairly easy work, and two, the work that Jeffrey puts into the Motion Picture and Television Fund has endeared him to many of these folks. They like him and want to be in his movies.

    • "Walt Disney avoided celebrity voices for two major reasons: 1) The image conflict (when audience has memory recall of the appearance of the well known actor and has to surmount the visual conflict between his memory and a cartoon he is seeing on the screen and 2) Cost. He believed it to be a complete waste of money to pay above scale to a good voice no matter its source."
