News Article on Cadiz Water Project

There is an article from today that discusses a Special Meeting by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. In this article it is stated:

"In addition to the proposed groundwater management, monitoring and mitigation plan for Cadiz, supervisors will approve or reject the environmental impact report by the Santa Margarita district and can issue or deny a permit for the project."

    • Now, one thing I would like to know is why would the San Bernadino County Board of Supervisors even schedule such a "Special Meeting". I would have expected 120% support by them for the Cadiz Water Project because it could possibly create some jobs for a limited amount of time in the area (and seriously who gives a #$%@ about some stupid national preserve if some additional tax revenues might be realized). In that case, any additional meeting would seem to be "unnecessary" unless are some internal concerns?

      • Has to be political theater to perpetuate idea that SB is a responsible regulatory agency, with goal of convincing federal regulators, MWD, and environmentalists. Doubt those key parties will pay much attention, but some of the shareholders might.

I wouldn't be surprised if CDZI encouraged the step, seeing the approval as a press release opportunity. CDZI is a master of the non-event. I am still shaking my head over the fuss they made (to remarkable effect) over SMWD's approval of its own highly promotional EIR .

    • Interesting -

Brad Mitzelfelt is probably a rubber stamp yes, as he's been a supporter from day one, and is a scorched earth pro-development guy (IMO) - as supervisor, I suspect he leads an overall yes vote - so San Bernadino approves, CDZI puts out another #$%$ press release, and the stock rises another 10%.

Important though that neither San Bernadino nor Santa Margarita are voting agencies at MWD - based on the pollutant levels, I think as you've said before, some expensive treatment requirements are all but certain, if they approve at all -

    • Btw: the latest short-interest data (from 9/14) for CDZI shows an increase in short interest by around 50,000 shares.
