This Chinese company is trying to build a massive copper mine 30 miles from Kabul Afghanistan.
They are digging and scratching their way to a major operation that can produce 11,000,000 tons of proven copper reserves. Plus enumerable other precious metals, REE's, Iron, Gold, Silver (some day I gotta learn the symbols) Aluminum....The list goes on. This mine will be massive and very profitable.
Accept for one small detail. The riches lie under a 2,600 year old Buddhist Monastery that was just unearthed.
Read the article. It is amazing how much this mine is worth and the Chinese were stopped dead in their tracks by this find.
It's not the Taliban, but the question is if, not when China resumes mining.
Will they pay off officials? (They do it all the time, bribes are sanctioned and sometimes funded by the government)
Or will they just quietly "eliminate" the opposition as they've done with entire villages and government departments in Africa? (My guess is they won't get pull out the fake riot cards and the threats to families until the US pulls out, then watch how fast this project will move if it is still stalled by then.)
Couple of articles all should read (There are many more, but this will give you a taste of the non-anglo mining world and a lot to consider investment - wise:
