2009-current TDIs are having catastrophic failures due to intercooler design failure. When temperatures get into freezing temperatures ice forms in intercoolers and block it. When the ice melts, water can be ingested into the engine and destroy it. No fix or recall for this serious issue.
But the diesel is only 23% of total sales, then filter it with how many are in freeze prone areas and it's smaller.
Also I've seen no publicity about this.
So it's just a reaction to Euro/Bentley noise
