NPR had a segment yesterday with The Hurricane Center here in Miami. They mentioned that this season will be higher than normal regarding tropical storms and hurricanes. The estimate for this year is above 11 tropical storms of which 6 to 7 may hit the hurricane mark. They said last couple of years have been quiet but that this year waters are exceptionally warm generating the conditions that favor hurricanes and that South Florida residents should take extra efforts to guard themselves against this.
Hurricanes reduce utilization rates. Idle assets do not make money. Hurricanes in the past have not increased earnings, and if there is a spill from damage during a hurricane the risk is return of restrictions on drilling and related activities. Hurricanes = bad, not good.
