I found this on the TFS Home site: ************** MD800D This digital SVGA microdisplay is optimized for portable data viewer application and features low power consumption. It also requires less bit information to produce a full color image, making it more compatible for wireless handset applications. Low power consumption arises from being able to write the image information once to the microdisplay and then power down the peripheral circuitry that consumes power. This display was designed as a turnkey module for handset manufacturers. It is designed in conjunction with proprietary optics that are thin (17mm) and ... **************
I read "color for wireless handsets" here. Isn't that right?
The problem with a color handheld is short battery life. That's why Palm sells more of the black and white's than color. And there are millions more Palm's out there than Pocket PCs. Until battery technology catches up, I wouldn't count out the black and white hand helds. TFS will probably continue to drift downward in the short term but I expect a robust recovery early in the 4th quarter.
TFS has no color displays. Pocket PC and Palm handhelds are all moving to color! So no hope there for TFS. I dont know how u claim Samsung helps TFS.
MOT phones are lagging -- i just bought a Samsung SCH8500 (superior graphical LCD, voice activated, calendar and schedule managment) over the MOT StarTac and MOT Timeport. MOT has lost its edge *big time*.
And Samsug makes its own LCDs, does not buy them from TFS. In fact, Samsung in selling LCDs to others.
TFS counted on MOT managament to continue exploding -- but Samsung and others are better phones and lower-priced. Too bad for TFS for counting on Mommy MOT.
Furhter, TFS did not move into color LCDs... basically been sitting on their hands while Samsung and others moved ahead and nailed MOT/TFS combo.
TFS=dumb lazy management -- whoever heard of 80% of a company's revenues coming from one buyer!
