Spending is addictive. A study showed that buying things creates endorphons, especially in women. And endorphons resemble the opiates in their abilities to produce analgesia and a sense of well-being. In other words people get pleasure from spending and if they have money they will spend. People may slow their spending at times but that only means pent-up spending pressure later on.
