I have seen alot of posts about why has Jack not been bought by an investment capital firm or via a takeover. I worked for Jack, and I was thinking the other day: We had a defined benefit pension plan, reasonably generous, but certainly not the norm in the industry, I wonder if haveing to assume that administrative burden chased potential suitors away.
Might be a factor but the issue at this point seems to be one of valuation. While the comps are good and the re-franchising is moving nicely ahead along with favorable menu changes and re-imaging, the stock is no longer cheap. At the $18-$19 level, it was cheap. Today, after a nice move and a solid up-trend, it's probably fairly valued. The big catalyst is Qdoba. This has yet to be fully understood by the market and its upside not yet fully realized. When this takes place (patience!), the stock should enter a new growth phase.
