  • I'm with you. I'll take the easy $32 for FM anyday over the uncertainty of CKR.

    • I think this is great news considering the name
Foodmaker is so generic, as you said. There might be people
out there who would like to buy JBX stock but don't
know it's owned by FM. Good move, Go JBX (in October),
      Go FM now!

    • It was suggested at the annual meeting, and
Nugent commented that they had been given the proposal
serious consideration. How many instantly recognized and
knew what "Foodmaker" did, anyway? It was too generic.
Would you invest in a company called "Softwaremaker" if
you didn't know that it was the maker of Office,
Word, etc.? In this day of instant brand recognition
and product loyalty, it's important to have a
consistent and clear message, not one that may create
      confusion, no matter how little.

      Making new highs
      before earnings come out.

      Go FM--er JBX!

Didn't someone on this board suggest this awhile back? IMO it is a great move.

    • From their definition: "For a stock to enter the
Fair Value Portfolio, it must carry a fair value
ranking of 5, a positive timing index (designated by a
'+'), and an earnings surprise ranking of "A"."

There are usually only about 30-40 stocks in this
portfolio at any one time. Stocks drop out quickly when
their rating goes below 5, but only if one of the other
indicators also drops. In short, S&P rates these stocks as
the most undervalued relative to the S&P 500, taking
      into consideration profit growth potential,
price-to-book value, return on equity, and dividend
      yield.

Here's some further definitions of their criteria:

"The Timing Index uses momentum and other analyses to
determine whether a stock's price is strengthening or
weakening, thus helping investors to pick the right times to
buy and sell. The timing index is noted by a '+' or
'-' next to each stock's fair value ranking. Absence
      of a '+' or '-' indicates a neutral timing
      index.

"The Earnings Surprise ranking system diveides stocks
into five tiers, designated by A through E. Tier A
stocks are most likely to show future positive earnings
surprises. Tier E stocks are most likely to show future
negative earnings surprises. Tier C includes stocks that
are most likely to show future earnings in line with
      analysts' expectations."

      "A stock will be deleted
from the portfolio when its fair value ranking drops
below 5 and either its timing index turns negative, or
its earnings surprise ranking drops below 'A'. A
stock with a fair value ranking below 5 will still be
included provided its timing index has not turned negative
and its earnings surprise ranking is 'A'."

    • What does 4A- mean? What are the high/low ends of the scale?

    • Time for our pre-earnings run up. We just made a new intraday high of $29 on very low volume. Will we break $29 today?

    • Honest, I was just looking for an earnings release date and couldn't find anything so I was just about to post and ask you and Bingo, you've got it. I couldn't believe it. Thank again.

    • in July's "S&P Investors Monthly", a pamphlet I
get with my monthly Fidelity statement. Even though
FM did stay on the list for 7 months, it was a bit
of a surprise considering that earnings are about to
come out. I guess it no longer met the criteria, even
though its "fair value" target price is still shown as
      $40.90. But it had dropped to a ranking of 4A- (that's a
minus sign), which knocks it off the list.

      It
may return next month if we get the kind of earnings
      I'm expecting for this quarter.

    • Just spoke with FM's Treasury Dept. Earnings are tentatively due to be released on Monday, July 26th, close of market. I'll reconfirm as we get closer.
