HOW LONG WILL WE TEST AND RETEST THE $25 PTR?

The answer is NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE.

Let me refresh your memories first on what PTRs and MID-PTR ICE are and briefly how they work; and then I'll give you 2 ACTUAL recent examples of PTR TESTING AND RETESTING. bu SRPT that you can see for yourself on your own charts:I'll be VERY BRIEF on the teachy part, I promise.

PTRs: PTRs are the strongest HORIZONTAL LEVELS of support and or resistance. Oddly enough; they have a constant gap between each consecutive PTR on each stock on each chart. For example, on SRPT, these very strong horizontal lines are every $5. ($6, $10, $15, $20, $25.) BUT, they are not $5 apart on other stocks necessarily; and are $10 apart on the WEEKLY CHART for SRPT. PTRs are so strong they can TRAP a stock in a range for long CONSOLIDATION PERIODS. For example; if you draw 2 horizontal lines at $25 and $30; you will see that SRPT has actually been TRAPPED pretty much between those 2 PTRs since. breaking above $25 on November 12th. Just kind of doing a SINE WAVE between those very strong PTRs. Because they are so strong; you have to open or close over or under them to get a possible BREAKTHROUGH. That is why I only use CANDLESTICK formatting on my charts. The WHOLE BODY not the tails are the only thing that count relative to MAJOR TREND LINES such as PTRs or CHANNEL, which are like DIAGONAL PTRs in some respects.

TESTING AND RETESTING: As I said, as stock price climbs for instance, it will eventually TEST a PTR. If it cannot CLOSE OVER that PTR, it has FAILED ITS TEST. Even if if it DOES CLOSE OVER THAT PTR, it can STILL FAIL if it cannot stay OVER THE PTR ON THE INEVITABLE RETEST. I say INEVITABLE: because every time that you successfully go over or under any PTR; you will subsequently RETEST IT. This retesting may take many tries, but eventually it will become clear whether the price is going to REMAIN ABOVE or REMAIN BELOW the PTR in question.

MID-PTR ICE: Exactly HALF WAY between any two consecutive PTRs there is always something called MID-PTR ICE. MID-PTR ICE is also a strong force; but WEAKER THAN A PTR. It is not classified as a MAJOR TREND LINE: so it never requires any RETESTING. We mark it on charts though, BECAUSE IT IS OFTEN STRONG ENOUGH TO CAUSE A 180 DEGREE SHORT TERM CHANGE IN PRICE DIRECTION.

LET'S LOOK AT SOME ACTUAL RECENT TESTS AND RETESTS ON SRPT:
    A. THE $15 PTR EXAMPLE: Place a HORIZONTAL LINE on your SRPT DAILY CHART at $15 at least back through August 2012. Look at all the TESTING AND RETESTING that SRPT did at that $15 PTR area. It tested and retested for 23 trading days from August 30th to October 2nd. Back and forth, over and under $15 it went. Note: It was heading DOWN, but REVERSED DIRECTION right at the $12.50 MID-PTR ICE on September 13th.
    B. THE #30 PTR EXAMPLE: Now, draw a HORIZONTAL LINE at $30 at least back a few weeks. See the TESTING and RETESTING at $30 from November 26th through December 4th, ONLY 7 TRADING DAYS.. NOTE once again, it started DOWN in that timeframe but REVERSED right at MID-PTR ICE at $27.50 on November 28th.

SUMMARY: There is no way in my experience to PREDETERMINE how long a TEST AND RETEST WILL TAKE. We are CURRENTLY TRAPPED BETWEEN THE $25 AND $30 PTRs but we have been TESTING THE $25 PTR AREA SINCE DECEMBER 7th....9 TRADING DAYS SO FAR.ONE THING WE DO KNOW....AS LONG AS WE STAY CLOSED ABOVE $25: WE CANNOT FAIL THE TEST.

    • we're trapped until shortly before jan 9; the pr scheduling the jpm conference should set off a move as chris will provide guidance; at that point he might or might not have already met with the fda; most likely not; that's the next big catalyst, and after that, we sweat out the fda minutes and the hourly rumors and bear raids
