I agree Gary..I've been done with party politics since 1999... I ran for political office (as a Republican). I lost...It was a horrible experience...Both parties hated me because I funded my own campaign. The PARTY WANTS to control the Candidate with PAC $$ and MOST candidates need it. ...that's how the system works...We can't all be Bloombergs.. Joe
I did not see it, but he is not powerless. He could get serious about some/any spending cuts, but it goes against his stripes, so he won't and for that reason appears powerless. Congress has enabled this stuff and is just as guilty.
Spending cuts are not the issue TODAY...It's about defunding or delaying the affordable heath care act and opening the Gov't... the NEXT issue is spending cuts vs taxes....And he has clearly stated he is ready to negotiate those issues.. Long term spending is an issue BOTH parties agree must be addressed..At 17 trillion debt and rising, everyone knows it must addressed. That will take some time.and concessions on BOTH sides. ..joe
He is doing this to face down the Republican bullies who apparently don't understand economics as well as a college Econ 1 student would. The Most Powerful Man In The World (your quote, not mine;) will extract a price from this blackmailing GOP - heavy losses in the 2014 elections, and a Congress that can actually do some of the good that he's set out to do, without hurting Business.
