I'm a GOGO shareholder and bull; however, how is the use of cell phones a tailwind? Instead paying for GoGo's service, I could just turn on my cellphone and use 3G to surf the net, text, etc. Just wondering.
Paying for wireless through GOGO is the only way airlines will do this as they need that extra income for the priviledge. I'm sure they've got a deal with Gogo. The phone companies don't have the capacity in the air. Gogo is the winner here and I'm sure and hoping phone calls will not be allowed. If the FCC is so worried about security, this is one thing that should not be allowed on planes! Only my opinion
Check out GOGO's technology, they have the exclusive bandwidth for aircraft cell phone bandwidth. They have a nationwide network of cells that are pointing upwards to the planes unlike Verizon and AT&T towers that are aimed at land based users. I believe that the actual arrangements will involve installing a mini cell system alongside existing WiFI kit on board so any cell phone in a plane will connect there and that cell links to the GOG cell towers underneath them. in 2015 satellite connections are coming.
