Your Child will Thank You When They Bury You.

Millions of Children will Suffer because of the spending we are doing now.
For all those who love the long position. You should tell your children that your sorry that they will live in a poor communist country called the United States.
Your asking them to pay for the things that you want now. You should feel guilty as HELL.
But your only concerned about a few more sp points and a new I-phone.
You can sleep well knowing their future is predicated on the control your government has over them.

    • I like you too Nyner and your out look reminds me a lot of myself when I was younger. People do consider me a lefty but I'm not for a bloated government. I'm for smaller government too like get rid of the patriot act which makes it difficult to have a U.S.bank account for Americans living overseas. I have said after this recession ends we need to make some cuts. I would start with the 2013 $851 billion defense budget which is almost as much as the rest of the planet spends combined. It is very expensive to run a empire. Also we could go to a one payer medical system which may not be as good but would cost much less. In Canada everyone is insured and it's 10% of GDP. I think it's getting close to 15% here. We might have to wait to see a doctor. But I'm not for cutting benefits for the old or poor children, if that makes me a lefty then I am. There are military bases all over Texas but small businessmen will suffer if they are closed. If we don't want to cut anything then we could raise taxes or keep borrowing. Politicians will usually take the easiest way. As Buzz says it could go on a very long time.

    • ""I expect that sooner than later I will be told that 1) I have saved too much to qualify for SS at 62 and 2) that I have too much money to get covered by medicare. ""

I think we have all had that though in the back of our minds. Depressing

      • I tend to get angry rather than depressed. Changing the timing isnt fixing the problem. Can kicking has been done to death. 1)make it so any congressman/senator on every level has no better deal for benifits than whatever Mc Donalds offers. Privitize medicare and SS and plowing my streets the city has done a wonderful job these last twenty years, but its time to try something different. I really want to see if a for profit org can do any worse. Where I live the city needs to hire 40-50 language translators for the schools. Im really tired of paying for #$%$. You need a translator bring your own. Dont like it. Well move. Want to get treated fairly. Pay for it.

    • ""Lobbyists, lobbyists, lobbyists.""

Thank you for pointing that out. Professional lobbying should be outlawed. But everyone does it pharma, doctors, insurance, auto, unions, even states, remember a few years ago when congress wanted to close redundant military bases?

And thank you jl for bringing a controversial topic to the board even if I don't agree. Ask your self how would it hurt you if the U.S. did ever default on the debt? Germany had hyper-inflation and issued a new currency and the people accepted it. Mexico has issued "New Pesos" and the people accepted them. What choice did they have? If you are lending money in U.S. dollars you could get hurt. If you are getting paid in U.S. dollars you could get hurt. Plan accordingly.

    • It's about time the overly pampered, self centered, overindulgent, youth of today be given some responsibility to provide for the future. Granny and grandpa, mom and dad, won't be around forever to provide for the extravagant life styles the youth of today have been conditioned to take for granted. Learn to earn, save to create security, and have respect for those who came generations before you, and practiced those "old school" standards.

They're too busy providing for the past.

"Granny and grandpa, mom and dad, won't be around forever to provide for the extravagant life styles the youth of today have been conditioned to take for granted."

The best thing that could happen to the youth of today is if granny, grandpa, mom, and dad all kick it. But they are quite determined to live forever.

    • Sorry about that let me be clear. I don't believe in cutting benefits to people who really need them or earned them. I do believe everyone while they can should plan for their own future just in case. The debt is only a problem if you believe you will be depended on the government in the future.

      • "The debt is only a problem if you believe you will be depended on the government in the future."
So then as long as it wont affect me its ok to affect others...because they dont have the resources to be independent? Funny but its a different version of my own perspective. If I dont get SS I will not live as well but Ill get by just fine. However, something here sounds a bit like your playing fast and loose with no real responsiblity ?

    • When I was married, I mentioned putting away money for our kids college fund. My ex-wife blew up at me and said that was "HER MONEY". And she was all about instant gratification (the American way). I don't think she's alone in that sentiment.

    • aapl - Since the boomers have the votes, while young people have the energy, I believe this will ultimately be settled in the streets.

      ------------

as long as people have their food, beer and internet.........no riots.
when the food is gone - no one starves quietly.

the trick is, keep half of the population working
keep the other half feed.............no riots.

    • "" Due mostly to poor communication hospitals are allowed to do proceedures and repeat test done by another hospital within days costing 2-3 times more than is necessary.""

Yes a huge problem so they can protect themselves from lawyers. But not as big a problem in a one payer system. I think our problems can be solved but congress and the president need to find ways to work together.

    • The real problem adding to the debt is medicare and rising medical costs. SS is OK and self funding. Where could some cuts be made? How about defense? FY 2013 defense request of $851 billion larger than SS $820 billion or Medicare at $523 billion. If you're worried your assets will be seized you could leave the country now.

      • tex i like you but your a committed lefty. apple is right about putting in and taking out. also leaving the country is a cop out. you consistently advocate for bigger government but I bet deep down you know all the money O is borrowing can never be paid back and he's nothing more than a cheap conman with no long term plan

It's funny how during the debates Clinton and O were skeptical on Romney's math. Along comes today we create 150k jobs but we tick up to 7.8% unemployment. I'd love to go to school to learn there math.

Anyway no one expected the boomers to be as large as they are, live as long as many will live consume so many resources, it's impossible for the system to sustain itself. I don't understand why you'd be planning on leaving. Guy's like you that like big gov and advocate higher taxes should be willing to fork over more $ so the gov can do everything for you. ( cradle to grave some call it ) If your gonna talk the talk you need to learn to walk the walk

      • Why does a medical procedure, or a medication cost one third as much in Canada as it does in the states? Why do energy corporations, frivolous research grants, agricultural subsidies, pharmaceutical projects, blotted military budgets, etc. etc. receive massive entitlements? Lobbyists, lobbyists, lobbyists. They are, and will continue to always be; the cause of the systems failure to correct deficit spending.

        Sentiment: Hold

      • The comment about seizing assets was meant to be an example of just how thoughtless and clueless the IRS is. While medical costs are rising the waste in medicare is tremendous. Due mostly to poor communication hospitals are allowed to do proceedures and repeat test done by another hospital within days costing 2-3 times more than is necessary. Point is "how about we do more to control the outflows"?

    • ""Millions of Children will Suffer because of the spending we are doing now""
Really? feel guilty if you want but the baby boom gen has paid SS taxes for 50 years to support others and put their children through college. My children are not suffering. I feel no guilt what so ever. Maybe you should take care of your own family instead of being frighten of the government

      • I know 62 year old boomers collecting over $2,500/mo social security when they used to earn less $100 a week when they started contributing. How little they paid in compared to what they will receive if they live over 25 years is a HUGE problem. Especially if you believe that THAT money has been GROWN over the years by those administrating the social security pot. My bet is that it's a ponzi scheme no different than a GM pension fund.

      • "the baby boom gen has paid SS taxes for 50 years to support others and put their children through college."

The baby boom generation has consistently taken way more than they have put in and continue to do that. Their extravagance at their kids' expense is the reason for the US fiscal disaster.

      • I think doing both is appropriate. Take care of your own business and be very suspicious of govt. Govt rarely intend to do stupid stuff to people but laws get enforced by a faceless uncaring voice on the phone for the most part. Better yet a letter telling you that your assets are about to be siezed.
