cbbwang, you have every right to borrow margined shares and short them. Shorting homebuilders was a pretty safe bet for a time. I wish I had been paying more attention because it was a pretty safe bet. Maybe one day I will try shorting. What you don't seem to understand is that there is no such thing as a sure thing. You're an investor I'm an investor, I could name the famous ones too. My disagreement with you is that you seem upset that your sure thing was upset. If you take a loss you're not alone. "Whoever bought this at 17, good luck" is not the worst I've heard and I'm sure you know that. You and the other short people are hoping for bankruptcies. Did you ever consider that your hope of bankruptcy of all US home builders might rub people the wrong way. The long people have as much right to be optomistic as you have to be pesimistic. In a free market we investors put our money where are mouth is. Face it, if someone bought MTH at 9, 10 or 11 they would have been right. Home builders are a leading indicator out of a downturn. I would have thought you would have known that.
