OIL UP - I might as well be talking to a Tree Stump

The intent in raising taxes is not to pay off the debt, it is to re-distribute wealth. He intends to raise taxes on 'rich' families - those making over $200,000 per year. A family is 4 people, if you are single that translates to about $80,000 for him to consider you rich. As Michelle O. said one time, 'if you have too big a piece of the pie, you need to give it to someone who has a smaller piece'.

You're disseminating false fearmongering information. The limit is 250k and and it dosen't matter what your marital status is because we still are operating under same deductions and exemptions.

If those tax brackets were good enough for Reagan, Bush 1 and Clinton then I don't see why they aren't good for a new administration. Poor people will spend every penny that they get from tax relief and that means a more virant economy.

One of the main conditions that led to the depression was the inequality in the distrubition of wealth. During the last 28 years most of the tools and safeguards that were put in avoid repetitions were elimanated. Frankly they were put in because most of the politicians were worried about a revolt among the dispossed. I think that we should be worried about the new Hoovervilles AKA Bushvilles proliferating.

      • You're right in that some wealth redistribution now be a small price to pay to prevent major social dislocation later. Biggest area to attack in the Federal budget is the 55% going to the military. If we concentrate on true national defense, rather than nation building and elective wars, then we may make some headway on the deficit. However, the debt service expense almost insures that the debt will become monetized at some point. Thus, treasuries aren't going to be the oasis of safety that they have been perceived as. I just cashed in $60,000 of them yesterday to redeploy in energy on a DCA basis.

    • If she wants to give some her pie to someone thats fine but she needs to stop taking ugly pills.
