    ERTS First Call estimates

Can someone explain to me why ERTS trades at a PE of 75 for est 2001 earnings, but only 32 for estimated 2002 earnings.

I am new to the stock and trying to understand why the company earned .93 last yr, but is expected not to earn any monet this yr and then make $1.49 next yr.

Can anyone shed some light? Thx.

    • LOL! Not so hasty there dayz...

"After going through the PS2 extras, Suzuki fired up a build of the PS2 version and invited an audience member to take it for a spin. The demo featured VF staple Jacky and newcomer Vanessa Lewis in the underground cave level. While still early, the game looked fairly faithful to the arcade. Some background and lighting elements weren't quite right but considering the game is still a ways off from release we won't be too harsh on the graphics. The character models look fairly close to their arcade counterparts although they're not quite as developed yet. One area that is already quite impressive is the game's framerate. During the demo it appeared that the game was already moving at a solid 60 frames per second and retained the sense of speed from the arcade version. Make no mistake, in spite of some rough spots, the game certainly looks like it's on the right track for its PS2 debut."

    • **Don't forget Virtua Fighter 4 is coming to PS2, that'll be in the top 10 don't you think?**

TGS 2001: Virtua Fighter 4 MIA

We were expecting to see AM2`s big fighter on the show floor. We didn`t.

      October 12, 2001

Just a quick update from the floor of Tokyo Game Show 2001. The PS2 version of SEGA-AM2`s Virtua Fighter 4 is nowhere to be found in the Sega booth. While the arcade version is present in abundance, we were all hoping to see the game in its PS2 ported clothing.
All is not lost though. Sega will be holding a press conference in just a few minutes (1:00PM Tokyo time), and we expect the PS2 version to turn up there, along with a few other surprises. Will we get to actually play the game? Stay tuned!

Also, this is the URL for the Bond 007 article.

    • I think you're generalizing too much there, Rab. EA's claim that N64 market is 'soft' is only in relation to last year.

You also have to be careful about looking at unit sales in any given month, or in this case a two-week period. If a game releases, it's typically going to see the majority of it's sales in that first 2-4 weeks after release.

There's no way you could compare like-for-like unit sales of an N64 game to that same game on PS2.

    • Does anyone have the unit sales? I find it very interesting that an N64 title, THPS2, is outselling Gran Turismo 3, NBA Street and Twisted Metal Black for PS2, and they're the same retail price. Considering how soft EA told us the N64 market is what does that say about the PS2 market? Ouch.

      ERTS 10-K report:
"...the weaker market for N64 products in the current year. With the expected
release of Nintendo GameCube in North America in November 2001, per Nintendo, we
expect revenues for N64 products to continue to decline significantly in fiscal
      2002."

    • Oh seeing as the only games from EA in the top ten console game sellers are football titles this seems all the more appropriate now (below). Where will EA be when they only have 50% of the football market?

      http://ps2.ign.com/news/38835.html

      October 5, 2001

EA Sports might have been able to beat them to the market, but Sega Sports and Visual Concepts still have their eyes set on the PlayStation 2 football crown that's currently held by Madden NFL 2002. And from the look of the latest screenshots of the game that have been passed along to us, it appears as if they're well on their way to passing them in terms of visual excellence.

    • Thanks for those ertsy, but please do a better job with the formatting next time huh? :-)

    • I recommend the link (http://videobusiness.com/gamesell.asp), it's formatted!

    • **& Yeah I think Sega is diversifying more than EA but they're still shipping their core brands on the big consoles too. I don't know what their cash position is but even if it were weak I doubt they'll have much trouble raising cash do you? ***

If you have any information on Sega, let me know. But it has not been easy for any companies to go back for secondary offering. Everyone is rushing to ship products out by Thanksgiving so it will be interesting to see what is in store for us.

Good luck. Have a nice, long weekend everyone.

    • "As for the last paragraph, I was waiting to see how long you could go on without mentioning EA.com!"

      LOL!!

Oh I almost forgot to add... EA.COM sucks.
