Seems like a fair agreement to me since they get to recoup their significant and already expensed costs first. There will be an initial surge in revenue because of this. The part they split, while based on revenue, is only after it becomes profitable and there should be plenty to go around.
Put it this way... the Star Wars IP will cause the game to sell significantly more copies (I'd say it will double what the sales would otherwise be) and that will more than cover the revenue share agreement.
I agree that the Lucas IP of Star Wars is needed to create a MMO that can compete with WoW. A necessary evil. Also, development costs would have been through roof if they had to take the time to come up with an original story/universe/technology.
From the reviews, it looks like it is going to be a hit. WoW losing 800,000 fans is a major event, maybe they are too busy playing the SWTOR beta. It is all about juxtaposition between people who play and subscribe to MMORPGs and Star Wars fans.
Concerned that this KlickNation acquisition and deferring SWTOR revenue will make the quarter look like a GAAP mess. Come on JR, we need to see EA becoming a profitable company again! When was the last time we saw a P/E?!
