A good friend of mine, a radical diehard NASCAR fan, has developed a display case that enables a person to put in a NASCAR driver's picture, figurine, diecast car, collector's card and trophies. He uses mirrors and a light to bring out every feature of the in the display case. He doesn't know many people who he can get this display case in front of in order to see if there is any demand for it. I personally saw it and told him he should attempt to find someone with money to back him in order to get this display case in front of enough people to see if it has marketing potential and demand. IMO, he has a very good product. I thought he should go see a patent attorney right away. But he thinks he should wait to see if his display case has a demand among NASCAR Fans. He is a carpender and machinist by trade and owned a auto repair shop before he had to sell it 4 years ago due to him finding out he had liver cancer, which is in remission, due to contracting Hepatitis C years ago. In the last 4 years after the cancer, he told me that he originally built this case to display his very extensive (and expensive) NASCAR collection, that I estimate is approximately worth over $140K, and the case I saw was his solution to put on view his collection in his home.
Sorry for being wordy, but I would dearly like to see my friend Tom be recognized for what I think is a very viable product with great potential. He has entrusted me to hold one of his cases and the other day, while in the Tinder Box (getting some cigars) and seeing a Tony Stewart sticker in the wall, I asked the owner there to look at the case and he was willing to put up one of the boxes in his store. That is an example of getting his case in front of people who can see the potential of Tom's case.
Would any of you know of a contact or the best place for Tom to start getting this display case out in front of the masses? Should he go to a patent attorney before seeing if his display case has any demand? Any other help or information would greatly be appreciated!!! TIA
Beware of the Hollywood yuppies. They will steal your idea and you won't get a dime.
I would tell your friend to make it generic for all types of racing and patent it.
Even if you patent it a Hollywood type may take the idea and change it a little. Then they will market it themself.
The sport has been taken over by yuppies. People that don't even know how to change thier oil or spark plugs. But they know how to make money off of other people ideas. So watch out. Racing is a gold mine for that.
In the old days you would already have someone helping you market your product but not today because they do not want any competition.
