COLM is also in the watch business through Fossil. I know very little about the watch business, so I'm not sure about its potential with Columbia, but it shows that they are willing to take some risks & enter new markets in order to find growth.
We are looking at their shoes, sandals & boots for the 1st time. This, IMHO, is a no-brainer as far as complimenting their softwear line. In fact, COLM footwear is the fastest growing shoe company in the world.
One other thing about COLM really gets my attention & that's the strength of the tradename. When we offer similar items by Woolrich & Columbia & Wrangler, for example, Columbia will outsell the other brands 5-1.
And lastly, you've got to love the valuation on COLM, which basically assumes little or no growth going forward.
I can sleep at night owning a stock like COLM b/c I understand what they do & the valuation is reasonable.
