Check out Columbia's web page, http://www.columbia.com/ and enter your zip code in "Where to Buy". They have many retailers in your area. They are expanding their products and marketing areas. This is a high quality product line with stable or falling manufacturing costs due to the Asian crisis.
I bought COLM as a long term investment (like I would for any stock). I did not buy it on the hope that it might be the next big brand name (it probably won't). It should continue to make nice profits, which is why it is a good long term investment.
IMO it's more likely to go the other way around; COLM taking a chunk out of the fashion market. In fact, I'm contemplating selling some of my TOM to add to my COLM. I don't think that there's a rush to do this however. Again IMO both TOM and COLM are undervalued, but I expect TOM to move up first. It seems to me that right now Timberland and COLM are the most direct competitiors. I'd like to see the opinion of others who are more familiar with COLM and their products. Actually, I've never heard of the brand before reading about it on SI. I was surprised by the size of the company. I need to poke around the local department stores to see how the product is sold. I appreciate the posting of the web site. Lot's of information there and I need to go back and study this further.
