    Sludged Engines

There are about 3 million defective engines built by Toyota on the road. Camry model years 1996-2001. Toyota has been denying the problem.
They have been telling their customers it's tough luck for them. Now finally they are repairing the problem if customers can produce maintenance receipts. The Japanese car "high quality" bubble is about to burst.

    • Obama Sees Middle Class Tax 1.7 Trillion Increase Victory - Read & Vote Obama if You Love It.

The Largest Tax Hike in US History has just been upheld by the Supreme Court of the United
States and President Obama sees this assault on the middle class as a victory.

The already unpopular 2010 health care reform law has been converted by the court into a $1.76 trillion tax increase funded by escalating taxes to be paid the vast majority of taxpayers. The high court’s ruling leaves in place 20 tax increases in the health-care law, of those, 12 tax hikes would affect families earning less than $250,000 per year, including a “Cadillac tax” on high-cost insurance plans, a tax on insurance providers, and an excise tax on medical device manufacturers. By formally converting ‘Obamacare’ into ‘Obamatax,’ the court allows Obama to raise taxes on the middle-class.

The decision is a distressing blow to taxpayers and represents the single largest tax increase on young people in the nation’s history. When it takes full effect, the Internal Revenue Service will have immense new power and authority to persecute and prosecute a whole new group of taxpayers.

If the law takes full effect, it will devastate small businesses and destroy any chance for a sustainable economic recovery. It will add trillions of dollars to the national debt and push the country toward bankruptcy even faster than current projections. Any individual who believes that this decision must be overturned must do everything possible to undo the damage that has been done, especially at the ballot box on November 6.

–Obamacare law contains 20 new or higher taxes on American families and small businesses–

WASHINGTON, DC – Obamacare contains 20 new or higher taxes on American families and small businesses. Arranged by their respective effective dates, below is the total list of all $500 billion-plus in tax hikes (over the next ten years) in Obamacare, where to find them in the bill, and how much your taxes are scheduled to go up as of today:
Taxes that took effect in 2010:

      1. Excise Tax on Charitable Hospitals (Min$/immediate): $50,000 per hospital if they fail to meet new “community health assessment needs,” “financial assistance,” and “billing and collection” rules set by HHS. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,961-1,971

      2. Codification of the “economic substance doctrine” (Tax hike of $4.5 billion). This provision allows the IRS to disallow completely-legal tax deductions and other legal tax-minimizing plans just because the IRS deems that the action lacks “substance” and is merely intended to reduce taxes owed. Bill: Reconciliation Act; Page: 108-113

      3. “Black liquor” tax hike (Tax hike of $23.6 billion). This is a tax increase on a type of bio-fuel. Bill: Reconciliation Act; Page: 105

      4. Tax on Innovator Drug Companies ($22.2 bil/Jan 2010): $2.3 billion annual tax on the industry imposed relative to share of sales made that year. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,971-1,980

      5. Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tax Hike ($0.4 bil/Jan 2010): The special tax deduction in current law for Blue Cross/Blue Shield companies would only be allowed if 85 percent or more of premium revenues are spent on clinical services. Bill: PPACA; Page: 2,004

      6. Tax on Indoor Tanning Services ($2.7 billion/July 1, 2010): New 10 percent excise tax on Americans using indoor tanning salons. Bill: PPACA; Page: 2,397-2,399

      7. Medicine Cabinet Tax ($5 bil/Jan 2011): Americans no longer able to use health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement (HRA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non- prescription, over-the-counter medicines (except insulin). Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,957-1,959
      8. HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike ($1.4 bil/Jan 2011): Increases additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10 to 20 percent, disadvantaging them relative to IRAs and other tax- advantaged accounts, which remain at 10 percent. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,959
Tax that took effect in 2012
      9. Employer Reporting of Insurance on W-2 (Min$/Jan 2012): Preamble to taxing health benefits on individual tax returns. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,957
Taxes that take effect in 2013

      10. Surtax on Investment Income ($123 billion/Jan. 2013): Creation of a new, 3.8 percent surtax on investment income earned in households making at least $250,000 ($200,000 single). This would result in the following top tax rates on investment income: Bill: Reconciliation Act; Page: 87-93
      Capital Gains Dividends Other*
      2012 15% 15% 35%
      2013+ 23.8% 43.4% 43.4%

    • Sludging only occurs if #$%$ don't change the oil at least twice per year and do not use any engine cleaners (this is a debatable point since some aficionados think they are a placebo). You can also use tier 1 gas if you want to try to clean the system.

    • sounds like a sticky situation

    • "Too bad you are full of it. Camry's and Avalons are built in the states by Americans. They just have better mgt (the Japanese) who want to build quality cars. Maybe GM, Ford and Chrysler need to look at Consumer Reports and find out why people don't buy their product (poor reliability) vs Honda, Toyota and Nissan (good reliability). Besides, all brands have lemons."

I could'nt agree more with you. It's the management style that makes all the difference. It's not that the engineers in good'ol USA can't make better cars..it is that the managemnet does not choose to.

Companies in Japan are run by engineers, in US by accountants, salesmen & consumer focus groups etc. Also in both Japan and Germany, both being countries famous for the quality of their automotive products, the companies are very loyal to employees and vice versa. Companies take care of the workers, provide housing, medical, education etc. and employees don't jump from company to company for a $5K raise.

People who start with Siemens, Daimler, BMW, Toyota and Matsushita etc. mostly retire with them after receiving their gold watches.
Whenever the economy is good here we hear things like "Our employees are our most valuable assets" but when things look bad the same employees become the most expensive asset and are readily dispensed.
It should be the other way around, it is mostly mismanagement that drives companies to the ground. I really like what the grasshopper says in the Disney movie "Bug's life".. "First rule of leadership... Everything is your fault"
In the US I would really like to see the CEO and CFO falling on knives and Samurai swords like in Japan when they screw up.

    • "The correlation between national IQ and national income is very high. For the 81 countries, the r is .73 for GDP measured in purchasing power parity terms..."

"Second, in a world where the average IQ is 90, America's nepotism-driven immigration system (legal and illegal) will continue to import primarily foreigners with two-digit IQs. These immigrants' skills are typically insufficient to compete with our native IQ elite, but are ample for driving down the wages of our fellow American citizens who were not blessed in the IQ lottery."

Means I will continue to buy Toyotas and not American cars. Anyway, why should I buy a car from an American car company that uses quotas against white people and their kids???

I should use my money to patronize companies and goverments that don't practice state sponsored racism against their own citizens and Japan doesn't discriminate against its own citizens, so I got no problems buying Japanese cars.

White people could end quotas tomorrow if they just bought Japanese and European stuff.

White people would have Wall Street peeing in their pants.

    • you have a lengthy and interesting observation. hank you and will chat again.

    • correct assumptions.... scoote lizard

    • I am not championing the Japanese by any means, but it is useful to compare our two economies and national objectives.

The Nikkei was at nearly 40,000 in 1990, last Friday it was at 10,048, during that time Japan completed the bridge across Tokyo bay, completed the tunnel linking Honshu and Hokkaido, completed the New Kansai Airport, completed the bridge linking Shikoku to Honshu.

During that time the Lexus surpassed all other car makers in quality and superior design.

During that time Japan sent tens of thousands of their kids abroad to learn new technologies and how to deal with other cultures to bring this expertise back home to Japan.

So I don't see to much "despair" happening in Japan. Now there is uncertainty and doubt but they seem to be holding up much better than the US.

Because meanwhile in the US, all measures of children's education, health and family welfare declined.

Meanwhile in the US, family earning power decreased to less than levels in the early '70's whilst US CEO pay at least quadrupled.

Meanwhile, there was the LA riots, the Waco siege with how many kids killed by a botched raid on those whose sin was largely the same as the President who though later impeached was considered a hero to many for nearly the same offense.

Meanwhile, US politics turned into legalized bribery.

    • They are driven to prove their culture and traditions can compete with Western technology. Sadly, as we Americans ourselves are finding out, corrupt cultures produce corrupt thinking which produces corrupt design, bad quality and high cost.

What happened was that Great Society programs were intentionally perverted into multiculturalism and diversity in order to force yankee ingenuity into submission to old world ethnic and religious authorities and traditions.

There was a war on yankee ingenuity, its mostly over now, just a mop up operation.
It began small and slowly in the 1920's, really picked up speed after the end of the Cold War, and finished with the bursting of the internet tulip economy bubble.

War is the only way to describe events like a Jacques Nasser purging people out of Ford because of their skin color all the while building low quality, dangerous cars that killed people.
Like a Lucent funding programs to keep people out of University of Michigan based on skin color despite losing tens of billions of dollars of share holder equity. Same thing with Coca-Cola.

Soviet style forced social experiments to dismantle, discredit and destroy yankee ingenuity over rode safety and quality.

Soviet style forced social experiments to dismantle, discredit and destroy yankee ingenuity wiped out tens of billions of dollars of share holder equity as Ford went from 50 to 13, Lucent 80 to 5, Coke 90 to 45.

The only concern of American technology today is political correctness and social engineering. Bad technolgy and quality simply cannot be corrected if that would entail exposing multiculturalism or diversity to criticism.

It is a modern day heresy to criticise diversity and multiculturalism. Those who dare to speak out face social ostracism and shunning. Those who speak out faces the loss of loved ones since the ever present fascism of political correctness driven relentlessly by US media, academic and entertainment interest allows no dissent and actively preaches hate against those who buck political correctness.

So, basically American technology has been reduced to a routine of ordering good technology, high quality stuff from Japan and Europe and putting it together like tinker toys by those that conform and submit to the new religious ethnic elite that now controls America.

Yankee ingenuity has just about been totally wiped off the face of the earth.

The only reservoir left of yankee ingenuity is in Japan where it was brought starting during the Meiji era and up until about 1980.

The next clash will be between Japan and a Western civilization that has reverted back to the dark ages.

    • Crap, this got a little long, once I get started on this subject its hard for me to stop.

I'm not sure what you mean by yankee wonderlust, but I suppose you might be referring to yankee ingenuity. As unique as American freedoms and ideals as expressed in the Constitution, American yankee ingenuity is characterized by an emphasis on reliability, the practical, and the affordable. Yankee ingenuity shows itself in the austere, simple yet deceptively subtle designs of the Shaker chair, the revolver, the John Deere tractor, the Zippo lighter, the Hummer, Frank LLoyd Wright architecture, XB-70 Valkyrie, the Huey H-1.

Yankee ingenuity was free and not forced to conform to useless, destructive and costly trappings and traditions of royalty and old world ethnic religious hierarchies.
Consider the Titanic with its "unsinkable" design flaw.

But stunning American successes in space, aviation, architecture, electronics and medicine collided with vested interests of old world ethnic and religious traditions that had now become established in America. Those same traditions that had inhibited and stifled development and prosperity in the old world began feel threatened by these American successes.

Religious and ethnic identity was threatened and began losing relevance and authority. The question became, why play around being ethnic and religious if you could drop all the religious and ethnic baggage and enjoy a better standard of living and quality of life by just being American.

This is why ethnic and religious authorities intuitively felt very threatened by American successes and instinctively banded together to defeat yankee ingenuity.

The deal is that technical prowness and acheivement are considered a measure and validation of ethnic and religious identity.

This explains why Atta, Bin Ladin, and many of the terrorist are engineers.
