Compass Minerals International (NYSE:CMP - News)
    Business Risk: Average
    Moat: Narrow
    Market capitalization: $750 million
Number of Wall Street estimates: 4
From the Analyst Report: "Third-quarter results at Compass Minerals were as expected. Notably, realized prices for the company's salt and potash products were 8% higher than in the previous year and offset the increase in transportation costs. The company also reduced its mix of discounted, early-fill sales and increased its mix of in-season sales that usually fetch higher prices, leading us to believe that the firm is betting on above-average snowfall. Our fair value estimate is unchanged at $32 per share, and we continue to think Compass Minerals is attractively priced at this time."

    • Local KC TV weatherman gave his seasnal forecast for the winter for KC. Much warmer than normal temps and below average snowfall. He is predicting 11" of snowfall versus normal of about 20. Of course, long-range forecasts like this tend to be innacurate as heck!

That is a dangerous gamble IMO. A bird in the bush....

      • Warning: Sarcasm follows...

What would we do without KC weathermen?

Maybe the KC weatherman observed the Indians (or Chiefs) gathering less wood than normal.

Here's my prediction: Winter starts Dec 21 (most of midwest experienced icy streets this morning). Some areas of the country will have below normal snow, others will have above normal levels. Woe to the local politician who didn't order enough salt to fill the highway silos.
