  • The share price of Dole continues to move up which is a good sign. The stock is up 15% in the last 3 weeks. For CQB everyone is fixated on the EU/wto instead of watching the fundamentals.

    • Ok guys,

      DOLE's charge for Mitch was
$100MM, in line with previously announced
      reports/estimates.

Given that, what do you think CQB's will come in at?
      Above-Below that?

      What was the last company
announcement as far as $$$ impact of Mitch. I seem to remember
      much more than that.

      Any guesses?

    • WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Dole Food
Co. Inc. shares dipped Friday morning after the fruit
giant posted a loss as devastating weather conditions
and the Russian economic crisis rotted its
      sales.

Dole (DOL) reported a fourth-quarter loss of $7.8
million, or 13 cents a share before special charges,
compared with an income of $23.2 million, or 38 cents, for
the year-earlier same quarter. Analysts surveyed by
First Call expected a loss of 14 cents.

      Special
charges in the fourth quarter include $100 million for
damage done by Hurricane Mitch, as well as $20 million
for destruction to Dole's citrus business from the
California citrus freeze, the company said.

      After
special charges, Dole registered a loss of $108.3
      million, or $1.82 a share.

      Hurricane Mitch damaged
over 30,000 acres of crops and impacted Dole's
employee housing, irrigation, drainage, roads and bridges,
packing plants, vehicles and heavy equipment, according
      to the company.

      Dole said the California
citrus freeze ruined 6,500 acres of orchards, which
      caused crop inventory losses.

      "The company and
our shareholders, employees and independent growers
were severely impacted by extraordinary weather
patterns throughout the year as well as the crisis in the
Russian economy during 1998," said Dole's chief executive
David H. Murdock in a statement.

      Shares fell
      5/16 to 31 9/16.

    • Dole released 4th quarter earnings in line with expectations this morning. All three stocks are trading very little volume.Friends feel everyone waiting for the boys to talk.

    • Provident Travel is of course one of the AFC (AIG) Lindner holdings.

keep it in the family, Carl.

    • They may also be able to list a "planned sale"
that can't be effected until the trading window opens.
The canning company owners had to hold for a set
period of time, at which point they could flip their
shares. That could be what you see.

      Now that I
remember the information about the blackout period, that
makes Carl's purchases that much more of a positive.

Stock still down, on a down market day.

    • Not an insider .... read the fine print. All of those sellers were previous owners of canning companies.

    • You can view insider activity for the past 12 or
so months simply by clicking on the "insider" icon
that appears above the stock chart in
      Yahoo.

Carl Lindner bought those 150,000 shares on 12/7 &
      12/9.

There also appears a Nancy Bergeron, who on 1/22/99 was
listed as a "planned sale" of 25,000 shares of common
stock. How was she was able to do this during the
      "blackout period".

    • They are combining their end of year conference
call with this meeting. My sense is that they are going
to focus on operations only. The interesting part is
that they are making themselves visible to
investors. Why do that unless you have something positive to
say.You should call Ohio to get approval to get connected
to the call----Should be real interesting.

    • Remember that all CQB employees, directors, and
Lindner family units are under the company blackout
period and have been since 12/15 (+/-), and will be
until 3 days after the quarterly earnings
      announcement.

Therefore there can be no insider sales or purchases during
that time, including movement in ESOPS.

      Pay
attention to ANY insider buying immediately after that
date, as the next blackout period starts 3/16 {+/-}.
Therefore, the window is extremely small for any
      activity.

When did Carl make that last Purchase that everyone
      was talking about?

    • I agree with you on the idiots thing. I have
never called Mgt. "idiots" so I also have to agree with
      what Mc.Millen said. :)

      Could there be any
      plan to take it private?
      An additional sale of
      series "X" stock?
      An additional sale of convertible
      Depositary shares like in 1992?

      Could there be any
news other than "Here are the earnings and this is
      where we are headed operationally"?

      The more I
think about this the more questions come to mind about
what they might really have to talk about.

      what
about debt refinancing, or new debt offerings?

Would you announce any kind of divestiture
      plans?

      Help me out here guys.
